Match: Mumbai vs Chennai, Indian T20 League
Date: 21st April, 2022
Time: 07:30 PM IST
Venue: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai
The arch-rivals Mumbai and Chennai will battle it out in the 33rd match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The two teams have faced each other dozens of times and each battle has been a nail-biter. Mumbai and Chennai have met 32 times in the Indian T20 League where Mumbai has sung the victory song 19 times. There have been multiple high-scoring matches between the two and the fans are expecting to see the same this season.
However, this season, both the teams are struggling with their form. Mumbai has a sword on its neck as the team is still at the bottom with zero wins. In this must-win situation for the teams, the upcoming match will be a thriller.
Mumbai is arguably having its worst run in the Indian T20 League. The team has yet to clinch its first victory after suffering six heart-breaking losses. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s off-key performance has really let his fans down this season.
Even though the team has a decent depth in the batting lineup, it is struggling to put runs on the board. Earlier in the season, left-handed Ishan Kishan was the cornerstone in the top order. However, in the recent matches, Kishan went back to the dressing room without making an impact. Suryakumar Yadav and Dewald Brevis have put on much-needed runs on the board in the previous matches.
Jasprit Bumrah has had a very little impact with the white bowl so far. In the last match, Bumrah leaked runs and picked zero wickets. Jaydev Unadkat picked two wickets for the team. If Mumbai wants to win their next battle, the team should come up with new strategies with the bowling division.
Last year’s title winner Chennai has just one win under their belt so far. The new captain Ravindra Jadeja is still struggling to find the perfect balance between his batting and bowling units. Even though Jadeja is struggling with the bat, he is picking up important wickets in the middle order. The batting unit has performed decently in the previous matches, but they lacked consistency. Finally, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat scored some runs in the previous match when he hit 73 runs off 48 balls.
Deepak Chahar’s absence has affected the bowling unit of Chennai. The bowlers’ underwhelming performance in the recent matches. Dwayne Bravo has been consistent with the white bowl so far in the season, but he needs some assistance from the other bowlers as well.
The DY Patil ground has decent bounce for the bowlers. One can expect matches that produce scores in the vicinity of 160-170 as a standard fare. Overall, it is a surface that has help on offer for both departments.
