India vs Sri Lanka: Only a couple of days are left as India will take on Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match ODI series on 18th July 2021. With the core team currently in England, Shikhar Dhawan will lead the charge of a second-string Indian side against the Island nation. While there are some experienced members in the squad, the majority of them are youngsters.

All those who have done well in domestic cricket and in IPL in the recent past have been rewarded with the national call-up. Given its a twenty-member squad, it remains to be which all players make into the playing XI.

In this article, we look at three young Indian cricketers who can emerge as the future star through their performance in the upcoming series:

  1. Prithvi Shaw:

In the last one year or so, Shaw has made headlines numerous times, and for all the good reasons. After getting sidelined from the National Cricket Team, Prithvi Shaw roared back to form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21. He made heads turn with his sensational performances.

Shaw became the first player in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to score more than 800 runs. She enjoyed a terrific run in the IPL 2021, where he finished as the fourth-highest run-getter. He scored 308 runs in 8 matches at an average of 38.50.

Shaw has been in great touch of late and it will be interesting to see how he fares against Sri Lanka in the series. With T20 World Cup coming this year, the series would be a golden opportunity for him to present his case. If he comes good in the series, his future in Indian Cricket would only get brighter.

2. Devdutt Padikkal:

His numbers in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 weren’t short of outstanding. He finished as the second highest-run getter, scoring 737 runs in 7 games at an average of 147.40.

Padikkal played a few impactful knocks in the IPL 2021 as well before the tournament got postponed. To his delight, he has now been handed his maiden IPL call-up for the Sri Lanka series. He would be hoping to get a few opportunities to showcase his mettle on the biggest stage. The southpaw knows that if the series could well become a stepping stone in helping him become the future star of Indian Cricket.
