A middle over collapse derailed the Kiwi’s chase as they lost the first T20 against Pakistan by 2 runs in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, 31 October. Mohammad Hafeez’s 345 of 34 deliveries and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed’s valiant 34 of 26 deliveries proved enough for Pakistan to tame the visitors.

Pakistan’s start wasn’t impressive but their middle order efforts and late blitz from Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim helped them to get to a reasonable total. New Zealand, on the other hand, had a stable start to their run chase with the opening duo of Glenn Phillips and Colin Munro as the two stitched a 5o runs stand in the first 6 overs before the former got dismissed on the last ball of the field restrictions.

Colin Munro continued his exploits and got his team to a commanding position before getting dismissed on a well made 58. The innings stumbled in the middle overs which saw 3 wickets going down cheaply including the skipper Kane Williamson. Ross Taylor showed some resilience in the middle but his knock of 42 runs was not enough for the Kiwis to get past 148 runs.
