Sri Lanka vs South Africa, Second Test

Before the start of the test series a lot many things took place which left the Sri Lankan cricket bewildered. Regular skipper Dinesh Chandimal along with coach Hathurusingha and manager Asanka Gurusinha were barred from two Tests and four ODIs after the ICC coming down heavily following the ball-tampering debacle which hunted down the spirit of cricket.

But things were different when the Suranga Lakmal led side stepped into the lush fields of Galle International Stadium to face one of the best Test sides going around and did the unexpected.

A ‘loss’ might be a small term to define the beating the Lankan Lions accord to the Proteas instead they handed them their worse beating in Sri Lanka which left them baffled.

Where: Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo

When: July 20th, 2018, 4:30 AM GMT, 10:00 AM IST, 09:30 AM Local

The visitors batting was weakened by some quality spin bowling from Dilruwan Perera with match figures of 10 for 78 runs, the old horse Rangana Herath with match figures of 5 for 77 runs and Lakshan Sandakan 2 for 19 who worked in tandem to dismantle a very strong batting line-up of the Proteas.

The batsman from either side did struggle to get going but Dimuth Karunaratne was exceptional with the way he batted as he carried his bat for a brilliant 158 in the first innings and then a crucial 60 in the second innings which helped his side register their best win against the Proteas in their own den.

The Proteas were taken aback after getting the news of one of their two spinners Tabraiz Shamsi who debuted in the last game in Whites and bagged 4 wickets in the match, won’t be available for the next match as he is set to return home for some personal reasons. The uncapped leg-spinner Shaun von Berg is in the contention to step into the shoes of Tabraiz Shamsi and make his debut in the next match.
