Bangladesh Tour of Windies ODI series, 2018
Windies vs Bangladesh, Second ODI
It was indeed a very important win for the Bangladeshi side in the last one-dayer who romped on their opponents in a fine fashion by 48 runs. This was the first win for Bangladesh in this tour, leaving the warm-up games and this win has really opened the floodgates for them.
WHERE: Providence Stadium, Guyana
WHEN: July 26, Sunday, 12:00 AM IST, 06:30 PM GMT
Being their first ODI since January, Bangladesh did put up a valiant effort to get to a score of 279-4 in the penultimate 50 overs. Man in form Tamim Iqbal (130 off 160, 10 fours and 3 sixes) who has been the backbone of Bangladeshi batting for some time now notched up his record 10th ODI century. He was perfectly assisted by the vice-captain Shakib Al Hassan (97 off 121, 6 fours) who was promoted to bat at number 3 by his captain looked solid with his timing and fluent shot making.
The two added 207 for the second wicket which was a record for this wicket in ODI cricket for Bangladesh and the second best for Bangladesh for any wicket, with the best being 224 runs for the fifth wicket between Shakib Al Hassan and Mahmudullah Riyad against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2017 at Cardiff.
Alike the bowling effort, there wasn’t much to say about the batting display form the Windies as their innings was wrapped up for 231 for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. Chris Gayle was looking good on 40 odd runs but unfortunately was the victim of a spectacular fielding display from Mahmudullah Riyad who caused a timely run-out. Shirmon Hetmyer(52 off 78, 5 fours) was the other man who stood tall against the Bangladesh bowling line-up but the effort went in vain as they fell short by 48 runs in the end.
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza led from the front with the ball as he bagged 4 wickets for just 37 runs in his quota of 10 overs. He was economical and his line and length were impeccable as he wasn’t allowing the batsmen to make runs freely.
With the loss, the home side Windies need to win the next encounter to keep the series alive else they will lose yet another ODI series at home.
