Wolverhampton Wanderers have been the real surprise package of the season, having punched above their weights for the most part of the season, especially against the so-called top-six teams.

In fact, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team has performed way better than the top-teams of English football than the teams lying in the bottom half of the table. No wonder, fans have labeled them as Robin Hood of the Premier League.

But in the last month or so, Wolves have hit a real bottom. Their season is on the cusp of spiraling out, after winning just once in the last five games.

Wolves’ deep run in the FA Cup could be the reason as Nuno tweaked his playing 11 before the Cup games. But there is no distraction now for the Westmidland club after their unexpected surrender at Wembley against Watford.

For Nuno, the target should be to finish seventh in the league table. That target is pretty much achievable despite the fact that they sit 10th. That said, Everton in seventh are just one point above them in the standing having played a game more than them.

Unai Emery’s decision to rotate for the home clash against Crystal Palace backfired massively as the Gunners lost 2-3 at the Emirates Stadium. That loss would hurt even more considering all their top-4 rivals lost their respective games at the weekend.

But the rotation was perhaps needed as the Palace game came just 72 hours after the exhausting Europa League quarterfinal clash against Napoli. Considering this is a season-defining phase, Emery can do with a healthier squad.

Still, the loss was a hard pill to swallow for all the Gunners fans. The loss was also a reminder that Arsenal do need to spend to come to at level terms with both Manchester City and Liverpool, especially at the back.

The 2-3 defeat, as well as Chelsea’s eventful 2-2 draw against Burnley, pushed Arsenal down to 5th on the table.

But this is Arsenal’s game-in-hand and a win here would take back into the top-4.
