ATL vs CAG Dream11 Prediction: Cagliari take on Atalanta at the Gewiss stadium in the third matchday of the Serie A. Atalanta have had a perfect start to the season, beating Torino 4-2 away from home on the opening matchday and beating Lazio 4-1, also away from home on the second matchday. Having had an excellent 2019/20 campaign, finishing third in the table and making it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League where they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain despite being the better team for large parts of the game. They now sit third in the league table after their perfect start to the Serie A campaign. That last game that Cagliari played was coincidentally against the same opponent that Atalanta played – Lazio. However, unlike Atalanta, Cagliari lost 2-1 to them at home and now sit in 15th place in the table. The only other game they have played, ended in a 1-1 draw away to Sassuolo. But former Roma manager, Eusebio di Francesco, will be boosted by their signing of one of the most popular centre-backs in world football – Diego Godin. One setback for Atalanta will that a member of the team has tested positive for Covid-19 and thus Gian Piero Gasperini’s press conference had to be cancelled. The severity of the situation was unknown at the time of writing.

Atalanta is the clear favourites going into this game and the bookmakers have unsurprisingly acknowledged that. Atalanta has the better squad on paper and are on a winning run as well. As for Cagliari, they are yet to register a win this season and face the tough task of playing away from home. Atalanta’s players have played in the biggest club football tournament and are used to a higher brand and level of football than their counterparts. Gasperini has drawn praise from all, regarding his tactics that have led Atalanta to become one of the strongest sides in Italy and will not aim for domination in Europe. Games like these are must-wins for Atalanta and any point is a bonus for the like of Cagliari. With the signing of Diego Godin, they will now some much-needed experience at the back but will need a lot more to deal with Gasperini’s men who will set-up to be relentless and having scored 8 goals in 2 matches compared to Cagliari’s 3 goals in 2 games, it should be a rather one-sided contest. Check out our ATN vs CAG Dream11 Match Prediction
Luis Muriel – The Colombian had a brilliant 2019/20 season, scoring 19 goals and 1 assist in all competitions in just 12 starts. He has kick-started his season with a goal and assist against Torino on the opening matchday. After only making the bench against Lazio, Muriel is expected to be back in the lineup against Cagliari.
Joao Pedro – Cagliari’s number 10 was in fine form last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 4 assists in the Serie A all season. He is yet to find the net this season but has already gotten off the mark in the assists department, contributing to the opening goal against Sassuolo in the first game of the week.
Duvan Zapata – Starting alongside Luis Muriel is fellow Colombian, Duvan Zapata. Zapata scored 19 goals last season with 8 assists all season and he also scored 23 goals with 7 assists in the Serie A 2018/19 season. He will look to put up similar or better numbers this season after having his loan deal made permanent this January. He has gotten an assist this season during their 4-2 win against Torino too.
X-factors (differential picks)
Alejandro Gomez – Playing behind Zapata and Muriel, fellow South American, Alejandro Gomez will be tasked with breaking lines and feeding goal-scoring opportunities for them. He has done this job well so far and registered 14 assists in the Serie A last season, along with 7 goals. He has begun the 2020/21 season in red hot form with 2 goals and 3 assists in 2 games.
Giovani Simeone – Giovani Simeone had his loan to Cagliari converted into a permanent deal last month after impressing the fans, scoring 12 goals and providing 2 assists during his time there. This season, he has already found the mark once this season and will look to improve those numbers and help Cagliari with a higher placed finish than last season.
Robin Gosens – Playing on the left-flank, Robin Gosens has been one of the best players during the rise of Atalanta under Gasperini. He scored 9 goals and provided 6 assists last season in the Serie A as well. The German has done an excellent job so for and will continue to do so until Atalanta become a regular force to be reckoned with in Italy.
