Chelsea have big ambitions from this season and need no extra motivation to earn the all-important 3 points that this match offers. But certain facets must be waiting for this match, led by manager Maurizio Sarri, to hand a revenge-return-gift-parcel to the visitors.

It was the reverse fixture which put a stain on Chelsea’s then-perfect season.

The Blues took an early lead at Molineux through Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s 18th-minute strike. And if you watched that match, you wonder how could Chelsea lose from there. Sarri’s men dominated every inch of the blade and the only thing they didn’t do right in the first half was their failure to add goals to the scorecard. And it did hurt them badly.

Wolves came out of the blocks like a wounded animal and ripped the piss out of the visitors, winning the match 2-1 to end Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season.

The holes in Chelsea’s armory were wide open then and they were never really the same team after that loss. As a result, the Blues from a genuine title challenger, are now fighting for the top-4 places.

Sarri’s own position at the club came into question as well. The 6-0 hammering at the Etihad Stadium was surely a cause for alarm.

But in the last few weeks, the Blues have recorded 3 consecutive wins which have eased the pressure on both manager and the club. The Blues may be sixth on the table, but only two points separate them from the Champions League places.

And don’t forget, Chelsea have a game in hand.

Wolves, on the other hand, have emerged as a genuine threat to all the big six clubs. Not that they are breaking into the top-six, that may happen next season, but the type of football they execute against the so-called big teams is just beyond comprehension.

The Molineux based side is flying high on the table, sitting at 7th with 43 points from 29 games. This game gives the visitors a shot at history, as they have never done a league double over Chelsea.
