Crystal Palace look set to avoid the relegation for the second successive season under Roy Hodgson. The veteran manager has succeeded in steadying the ship after a bad start to the campaign which left the club under the threat of relegation.

The former Liverpool manager is now the oldest manager to manage a team in the Premier League, which he enjoyed with a remarkable 1-4 away win over Leicester City. Call it a fate, that match at King Power Stadium was Claude Puel’s last as the Foxes boss.

The upturn in the form happened in the middle of December when Eagles beat Leicester 1-0 at Selhurst Park, followed by their biggest result till date, a 2-3 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Palace have won six times in the last 13 matches, while only 3 wins were recorded in the previous 16 matches. A win here and Hodgson’s men will be moving to 36 points.

Brighton & Hove Albion finally ended their Premier League winless streak (seven matches) with a 1-0 win over doomed Huddersfield. The win came as a big relief for the whole football club as the Seagulls moved five points clear of the drop.

But a lot of work is still to be done as they are not safe by any means. The real threat comes from Cardiff City who are on 25 points. But there is a silver lining here.

Cardiff City’s remaining fixture list is flooded with encounters against the top six teams, while Brighton have three. But a point to be noted here is that Albion will be playing Arsenal and Manchester City during the last two weeks, and by that time they may have enough tally in their locker to withstand the negative results.
