NorthEast have one draw and a win from their opening two games. After an eventful 0-0 draw against defending champions Bengaluru FC in the opening game, Robert Jarni's men recorded their first win of the season after beating 10-man Odisha FC 2-1 in the last match.
That said, the 2-1 scoreline flattered them to some extent as the visitors bossed the possession, dominated the midfield, and had more clear cut chances. But the balance of the tie changed when center-back Carlos Delgado's challenge was deemed a red-card offense.
The Highlanders enjoyed more possession afterward. Though Odisha were doing reasonably well to keep the hosts at bay, they lost their focus when Asamoah Gyan found himself some space in the final third and made no mistake in sending the ball into the net. That was the game and three points for NorthEast United.
FC Goa made a scintillating start to the new season after thrashing two-time ISL winners Chennaiyin FC 3-0 in the opening game before settling for a 1-1 draw against Bengaluru FC.
