France find themselves in a must-win situation as they take on Iceland on the road in the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifier match at Laugardalsvöllur.

But the away trip to Iceland is not a straightforward affair for any team to negotiate, and what makes this game even tougher for the World Champions is the fact that the hosts need all three points as well to stand a chance for a berth at Euro 2020. As things stand, Erik Hamren’s team is 3rd on the points table, only three points behind France.

That said, winning against France will be a very tough ask for Iceland, who are once again punching above their weights. The most likely scenario for them is a draw, which will allow them to push the qualification right to the very last week.

France, meanwhile, need all three points to move back to the top of the table, but they will also hope that Turkey drop points at home against Albania.

Iceland Team News:

Iceland will be without their captain Aron Gunnarsson, who is missing with injury, while defender Hörður Björgvin Magnússon is carrying a knock and will be assessed before the game. Though he is in the squad, so should be fine to line up for this game.

Kylian Mbappe and Luo Dubois, who were both parts of France squad, have pulled due to fitness issues.

While France captain Hugo Lloris suffered a horrendous elbow injury last weekend and will be spending the next few months out on the sideline.

Likely changes for France:

Lloris’ long absence should give Alphonso Areola a chance to nail down the regular spot in France’s team. The Real Madrid goalie is set to start here.

Despite Bayern Munich’s reluctance about Lucas Hernandez’s selection in Didier Deschamps’ squad, Lucas Hernandez is with France squad. The former Atletico Madrid star is training with his national teammates, but due to his injury issues, he may not play from the off. As a result, Lucas Digne is expected to get the nod at left-back.

Deschamps showed his unhappiness about the lack of time Olivier Giroud is getting at Chelsea, and this could be a sign of a change at the front.

Wissam Ben Yedder is an option, but Borussia Monchengladbach’s in-form striker Alassane Plea may get the nod here.
