FRA vs POR Dream11 Prediction: Portugal travel to Paris to take on France in their third UEFA Nations League game of the campaign. This promises to be an intense matchup given the recent success of the two nations. France is the current FIFA World Cup holders after an excellent charge in the summer of 2018. As for Portugal, they currently hold the Euros and the Nations League trophies. This game will be a repeat of the Euro 2016 finals where Portugal beat the clear favourites, France, 1-0 in the backyards (Stade de France) with a heartbreaking goal in extra-time. France has done well to shrug that loss off and went on to dominate the World Cup and win it quite convincingly. Portugal then went on to win the Nations League in 2019 by beating the Netherlands in the finals. Both teams are on an excellent run of form at the moment and have won both their Nations League games so far. Portugal sits on top of the table but just by a better goal difference of 2 but all that could change when these two sides meet. A win for either team can take them 3 points clear on top of the table.

Who will win today’s match?

This match will be a very tough one to predict as it usually is when two top teams meet. Both teams have excellent attackers in Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, and in the blue corner, we have Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud. One thing that France has over Portugal is their defence. Les Bleus will be happy with their defence and will have no problem relying on them. This will see Portugal keep more of the ball and will look to attack relentlessly. The French will be comfortable off the ball as well and Paul Pogba will unleash his amazing passing range to set up Mbappe, Giroud and Griezmann on the counters. Fernando Santos will be aware of that and will deploy Pepe and Ruben Dias to allow France’s forwards to have as little of the ball as possible. William Carvalho can fall back and play as a screening centre-back to add an extra level of protection. A draw seems like a realistic result between the two sides and on that either side won’t be too upset with. Check out our FRA vs POR Dream11 Match Prediction.

Captain options

Cristiano Ronaldo – Easily one of the best players the world has ever seen, Cristiano Ronaldo has brought Portugal a lot of glory in the form of the Euros 2016 and the Nations League in 2019. He has scored plenty of goals wherever he has played and will look to defend their Euros and Nations League for his national teams. Having scored 101 goals and providing 40 assists in just 165 games for Portugal, he is more than capable of doing so.

Kylian Mbappe – Kylian Mbappe will share the pitch with someone who he grew up idolizing – Ronaldo. Mbappe is on the way to becoming one of the best players in the world who has already won a lot. Despite starting on the bench, Mbappe got on the scoresheet against Turkey. He will be a thorn in the side for the Portuguese defence and will punish them even if he gets an extra yard of space.

Antoine Griezmann – Like Mbappe, even Antoine Griezmann started on the bench and still managed to get a goal to his name. Griezmann will have his eyes set on finishing top of their Nations League group and with 56 goals contributions for the Les Bleus in 81 caps, Portugal will beware as they know what he is capable of.

X-factors (differential picks)

Joao Felix – Playing in a front-three, between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva is something Joao Felix must have only dreamt of but here he is! After his big-money move to the Spanish capital, it has been a little difficult but he is still young and developing. He has begun this season quite well with a goal and assist in three games and will look to carry on this form.

Olivier Giroud – Olivier Giroud will be high on confidence after becoming France’s second-highest goal-scorer (with 42 goals) after scoring a brace against Turkey which takes him above Michel Platini (41). Giroud will now eye Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goals which is quite achievable if he has a good Nations League and Euros campaign.

Bruno Fernandes – He has played a vital part in their wins over the last few games and he will trouble France a lot by playing in balls into Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva. Having missed the game against Spain, Burno will be well-rested to take on a formidable side.
