Japan will be looking for their second consecutive win in the AFC Asian Cup when they play Oman at Zayed Sports City Stadium, in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, tomorrow on Sunday evening (IST).

This is Oman’s fourth appearance at the AFC Asian Cup competition and never in their history had they qualified to the knockout stage. Their best finish in the tournament remains a 9th place finish which they achieved in the 2004 edition.

However, Uzbekistan took the lead in the 34th minute against the run of the play. Muhsen Saleh Abdullah Ali Al Ghassani deservedly levelled the score for Oman in the 72nd minute. Eldor Shomurodov came off the bench for Uzbek and won the game for his country. The Reds now face Japan in their next game.

Japan, on the other hand, started their Asian Cup journey with a closely fought 3-2 win over Turkmenistan. Now they top the group and could secure their place in the last 16 if they win their next game against Oman, while Uzbekistan beat or draw Turkmenistan in the other match of Group F.
