Manchester United vs Liverpool: More than a football rivalry
There are football matches during the course of a whole season and then there are derbies, infused by the desire of winning the bragging rights of being a superior team in a region.
But some fixtures in world football can’t be incarcerated into one particular domain. The game between Manchester United and Liverpool is one such special matchup.

The rivalry is more than just three points, it’s entwined with something more than what you would call football affairs, and between Liverpool and Manchester United, it goes back to the industrial revolution.

Back then, Liverpool used to be one of the leading ports in the world, while Manchester boasted a big cotton manufacturing industry. But due to the heavy duties imposed on all products going to Manchester, the Mancunians were forced to build Manchester Ship Canal, which waned Liverpool’s power and sowed the seed for the animosity between the cities.

Now in the present context, the historical reasons may not hold much sway whenever these two cities meet each other on a sports field, but it’s as intense as it can be whenever Liverpool and Manchester United face off on a football pitch.

The game is of paramount importance for Liverpool at the moment as not only this is their game in hand over reigning champions Manchester City, but a win will take the Reds to the very top of the Premier League table.

Manchester United meanwhile are sitting at fourth with 51 points from 26 games. With Chelsea playing in the Carabao Cup final this weekend, a win would strengthen United’s grip on the top-4.

LIV vs MUN Dream11 TEAM NEWS: Injuries and Suspensions
Manchester United vs Liverpool Team News:

Manchester United:
Injured –
The hosts will be without Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian for the home game against Liverpool.
Suspended – None.
Questionable – Manchester manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed in his pre-match interview that both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial have returned to the training ground. The duo got injured during United’s 0-2 home loss against PSG and hasn’t featured since.

Note: If Jesse Lingard doesn’t get fit in time for this game, Juan Mata may start as a playmaker. While Romelu Lukaku may have to contend with a place on the bench as Marcus Rashford is expected to play as a forward.
Also, Marcos Rojo hasn’t played since 12 December due to injury but has been training. He remains doubtful as well.
Key Players – Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford

Liverpool:
Injured – Jurgen Klopp was asked whether Dejan Lovren has a chance to feature here, and he wasn’t confident. It means the Croatian is expected to miss the match. While center-back Joe Gomez remains a long-term absentee as he recovers from an ankle injury.
Moreover, midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may have returned to the training ground but he is still a few weeks away from getting full fitness.
Suspended – None.
Questionable – None.
Note: Virgil Van Dijk missed Liverpool’s 1st leg against Bayern Munich in the Champions League due to a suspension, but the big Dutchman is available for selection and will be starting at the back.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to make some changes with Fabinho moving further up the field. The Brazilian could partner Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park with Gini Wijnaldum playing as the 3rd midfielder.
Key Players – Mane, Firmino, Firmino

LIV vs MUN Dream11 Playing 11 – (Probable) –
Manchester United– De Gea (GK), Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata / Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial / Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford
Liverpool– Alisson Becker (GK), Andy Robertson, Joel Matip, Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum / Fabinho, Naby Keita / James Milner, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah

LIV vs MUN Dream11 FANTASY TEAM:

INDIA FANTASY PREDICTION:
The midfield may be a big factor in this game, but wing could prove to be a real decider here at Old Trafford. Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will have a big say no doubt, but United have the place on the wings as well, especially the homegrown Marcus Rashford’s.
The form is with the Red Devils but Liverpool have lost just once this season and are a tough nut to crack. But that sole defeat came in Manchester, a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
With too much riding on this game, we think a draw is the likeliest result here.
