PAR vs QAT Match Preview, Team News, Lineups

Can Paraguay get back into form? They have to as they play Asian champions Qatar in their opening Copa America 2019 game at the iconic Maracana Stadium.

Teams: Paraguay and Qatar

World Ranking:

  • Paraguay: 36
  • Qatar: 55

Group B:

Paraguay head into the Copa America 2019 short on confidence having failed to win any game in seven competitive games prior to a 2-0 win over Guatemala.

The team is under new manager Eduardo Berizzo whose own reputation will be on the line after getting the chop in his last two managerial jobs with Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

Qatar are coming into the tournament on the back of a stunning season where they landed the AFC Asian Cup crown. They may be seen as an outsider in the group which have Argentina and Columbia as well, but they won't be an easy opponent. The roster is stocked with talented players and players who know how to string passes together.

Watch out for direct runs of Akram Afif and Almoez Ali.
