Paris Saint-Germain can extend their lead at the top of the league to 13 points when they welcome Stade Rennais in the Ligue 1 match at Parc des Princes, in Paris, on Sunday night (IST).

After the disappointment in the Coupe de la Ligue, Paris Saint-Germain didn’t leave any room for complacency as they beat Strasbourg 2-0 in the French Cup round-of-32 match. But the win came at a huge cost as Neymar suffered a metatarsal injury, ruling him out for the indefinite period.

The Parisians have taken their game to another level in the last few games. The 1-2 home loss against Guingamp was a wake-up call for Thomas Tuchel and his men. Since that defeat, PSG have scored 14 goals in three games without getting any reply from the opponents, including a 9-0 mauling of Guingamp in the Ligue 1.

The defending champions are still sitting comfortably at the top. They have won 17 games out of 19, accumulating 53 points out of possible 57 on offer. The challenge is fading away with each passing week as the 2nd placed Lille are 10 points behind at this stage, despite playing three more games. It’s a stroll now for PSG in Ligue 1.

The visitors, on the other hand, have struggled for consistency all season. They are a long way away from matching the heights of 2017-18 campaign where they finished at a remarkable fifth place.

Their current standing is more down to their form under Sabri Lamouchi. Rennais at one point were closer to the relegation zone. The form didn’t improve and the club ran out of patience and sacked Lamouchi on Dec. 3. Julian Stephan was appointed on an interim basis and after winning his first six games in all competition, was rewarded with a two-year contract.

But the reality is dawning now as Rennais have won only two times in the last five games coming into their next game against PSG.

Injured – The Parisians suffered a major setback after it was revealed that Neymar suffered an ankle injury in the 2-0 home win over Strasbourg in the Coupe de France. The world’s most expensive footballer was at the receiving end of some heavy tackles from the visiting team, particularly from midfielder Anthony Goncalves.
According to some reports, the former Barcelona superstar suffered metatarsal injury, which is fifth such injury. PSG haven’t revealed the exact time period of Neymar’s injury, but his involvement against Manchester United in the upcoming Champions League round-of-16 match is under serious doubt.
Another superstar who won’t be playing in this match is Marco Verratti. The Italian hobbled off against Guingamp and wasn’t involved against Strasbourg.
Colin Dagba and Presnel Kimpembe continue to be on the sidelines as well.
In addition, midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been frozen out by manager Thomas Tuchel after he refused to sign a contract extension. While Lass Diarra will be missing the match due to some different reasons.
