History was rewritten as Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia to keep their position as the second team in their group after Russia. With scoring 8 goals in the first two matches Russia has turned the table in their group. Fans would have prayed for Uruguay and Egypt to qualify for the next round but the host nation had other ideas as they thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 nil in their first game and beat Egypt in the second 3-1. All eyes were on Mohamed Salah who made his first World Cup appearance and he didn’t disappoint as he scored from a penalty but the Russians were too good on the ground. Seeing the tactical football they played, all underdogs knew they need to step up and leap for glory.
As the game kicked off a different Saudi Arabia was seen on the ground. It was hard to believe that it was the same team that conceded five goals in their opening match as a firm defense line was held against Uruguayans in this game but in the 33rd minute the unmarked Luis Suarez taps the ball in from a corner in the back of the Arabian net to put Uruguay in the front. The Saudi Arabians however didn’t let go of the match yet as they kept on pushing and pushing themselves in the opponent’s half. But an injury in the 44th minute saw Taisir Al-Jassim being substituted on the ground by Housain Al-Jassim.
For Luis Suarez, this game would be the best one so far in this World Cup as he was took two shots on goal which he couldn’t against Egypt in his first game. However the game progressed on with time but Saudi Arabia failed to find the equalizer and when the coach substituted new players trying to form a new tactic that didn’t work and the game ended 1-0.
