The Catalan giants, Barcelona have confirmed that star striker has elongated his left adductor. Lionel Messi picked up a muscle injury in the first half against Villarreal in a La Liga fixture on Tuesday. The statement did not confirm when will return.

Likely to miss Champions League fixture against Inter Milan 

The 32-year-old Argentine is expected to miss the league fixture at Getafe on Saturday and remains doubtful for the UCL game against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Following a long layoff, Messi made his first start of the season against Villarreal on Tuesday.  Barca star set up Griezmann’s opening goal early but got hurt near the half-hour mark.

 

Club statement

First team player Leo Messi has elongated his left adductor. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.

The Argentine superstar, who won FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award on Monday, played the first 45 minutes of Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Villarreal, his first start after a preseason injury. Despite only playing the first half, Messi was superb, assisting Antoine Griezmann on Barça’s first goal, which Messi chalked up with a corner kick.
