Premier League had its first weekend of football of the 2018/19 season, and if the signs are to be believed, it’s going to be a two horse race for the title.

The defending champions Manchester City showcased why they are one of the best teams in the world when they defeated Arsenal by 2-0 on Sunday.

It was a new-look Arsenal that was facing City, and many of the pundits gave the nod to the London club to win this contest. Unai Emery had taken over the reigns of the London club, and he had the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexander Lacazette to lead the attack.

However, the team once again looked disjointed and City exposed the glaring weaknesses that Arsenal possess. Manager Pep Guardiola will be delighted with this result, and such performances set a precedent for the season, and a benchmark to live up to.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also started off the Premier League season with a flier on Sunday. They ragdolled West Ham United with a 4-0 scoreline, which saw the fearsome front three, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane be involved in the thick of the goals.

Coach Jurgen Klopp has made a big statement this time. He is not here to just take part but to take over. Keeper Alisson Becker was solid, and so was Naby Keita in the middle of the park. Expect this team to only get better as the season progresses and not be complacent in the games against small teams.

Earlier, Manchester United were the team that played the first game of the new season of the Premier League on a Friday night at Old Trafford. FIFA World Cup 2018 winner, Paul Pogba started the game and did enough to help his side win against a well-drilled Leicester City. One of the positives for The Red Devils was the goal scored by Luke Shaw, which not only was his goal for his team but also the first of his professional career.
