One of the integral players for the ISL Championship winning team Chennaiyin FC, Rene Mihelic, has signed for Delhi Dynamos for the upcoming Indian Super League season.

Rene Mihelic played 14 games for Chennaiyin FC in 2017/18 season, where he scored two goals and assisted four along the way.

The Slovenian playmaker has made a switch to a team who finished two spots above the last place in the table. This move has shocked some of the spectators who watch this sport, but Rene Mihelic has explained the reasoning for his move is down to the new coach who has arrived to revive the team playing out of the capital city.

“I saw that the Spanish coach (Josep Gombau) came to Delhi and my agent was talking with the club as well, I wanted to come here to play a different football because in Chennaiyin, we had a different football and I didn’t play so much. Now, I am happy that I am here in Delhi. I have got an amazing coach and we are working well in the training sessions.” he said talking to Goal.com.

Mihelic feels he has more to give to this league, and his stint last year had a stuttering start. He wasn’t utilised to the fool potential and the upcoming season is where he will be looking to make the most of the chances.

Delhi Dynamos has only made the semi-final stage only once in the entire history of ISL season. For some reason or the other the team has always underperformed in the tournament and the upcoming season is expected to be the one where they once again showcase their true potential.
