Belgium’s Red Lions square off against Spain in the warm-up game of the inaugural FIH Pro League on Saturday.

Belgium, the winner of the recently concluded Hockey Men’s World Cup, have demonstrated their growing stature in the sport in recent years. They would come into the competition looking to build on the recent success.

Meanwhile, Spain did not enjoy the mega-event much and struggled to make a big impact before crashing out early. FIH Pro League presents them with an opportunity to improve upon the overall game, build on the strong points and working on the weaknesses at the same time.

Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan and Spain are the participating countries in the league. India, eight-times men’s Olympic champions, had pulled out 18 months ago as the federation was of the opinion that it would not benefit the women’s team and did not want only the men’s team to take part in the competition.
