First Record

Rishabh Pant lived up to the rumor that he would be making his debut in the third test match. He also lived up to the hype by starting his Test match career with a huge six, right of the bat. On his second ball, he was able to smash a huge six dealt by leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

He became the 12th batsman to achieve this feat. Other names on this list include Keith Dabengwa, Shafiul Islam, Eric Freeman, Jahurul Islam, Carlisle Best, Dale Richards, Mark Craig, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Dhananjaya De Silva, Al-Amin Hossain and Sunil Ambris.

Pant was the replacement for Dinesh Karthik, who injured his finger prior to the third Test match. Pant was the 291st Test player for the Indian team. He was handed the Test match cap before the match started.

Pant walked in on the field after team captain Kohli was out at 97 by Adil Rashid. It was the second time Kohli was dismissed before he hit a century. The first ball pant was dealt was a cover drive for no runs but the second was a blast. A huge six from the young man. This obviously sent social media into a frenzy. He truly lived up to the hype.

Second Record

Another proud achievement for Kohli, although he didn’t make a century he too made a new record. Kohli is now the highest scoring Indian captain Tests. Sourav Ganguly held the position with 1693 runs in 43 innings. Kohli broke that record with 1731 runs in 30 innings.

Third Record

This was indeed a game for records as a third one was made by the partnership of Kohli and Rahane. The duo was able to make a 159 run stand which is the fourth highest partnership seen at Trent Bridge.

Not forgetting Rahane as this was his first 50 plus score since his century against Sri Lanka in 2017 August. In Test cricket, this was his 13th half century. Since scoring 132 against Sri Lanka in the first innings, he was only able to get 149 runs in the next 13 innings.
