Netflix

Video streaming giants Netflix have got a brilliant reception in India after their launch a while back. The American company is adding more new customers every year to its directory. But now to bring in more audience it has decided to delve into the money making and entertaining machine that is IPL.

Yes, you heard that right, Netflix has now bought rights to the document, IPL’s most successful team Mumbai Indians. The documentary will be based just like its documentary on Juventus, where it will focus more on the off-field activities of the group, what goes into the team week in week out rather than game highlights.

The documentary will be an 8-part series and will focus more on the players, management and what happens behind the scenes. Mumbai is the most decorated side and Netflix buying into their documentary rights means more revenue from the vast fanbase.

MI Tv, MI’s own channel for the internet,  does something similar by providing personal interviews with the players and behind the scenes. But, Netflix like its other documentaries must be planning to comprehensively cover the team, the fans, the official’s point of view.

It is a testimony to IPL’s growing viewership that Netflix couldn’t shy away from the opportunity of covering it.

MI will be looking to beat DD in their final match of the season and make the playoffs. Mumbai Indians has won 3 IPL titles and should they win this year they will have two more medals than any other side.
