Afghanistan’s Zahir Khan has been ruled out of the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League and Rajasthan Royals have picked New Zealand leg break bowler Ish Sodhi to replace him in their squad.

At the auctions held earlier in January, RR made sure to get Zahir Khan by their side who was impressive in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year.

He was picked for INR 50 lakhs.

Zahir’s injury prompted the team of Rajasthan Royals to look for some experienced players and they went with Kiwi spinner who could possibly add weight to Royals relatively inexperienced spin side.

Ish Sodhi has an impressive economy rate of 7.43 and 7.66 in the T20Is and T20s respectively.

He has 36 scalps to his name in 26 international matches in the format.

Sodhi also has the experience of performing well in India, most remarkably in 2016, during the T20 World Cup, where he picked 10 wickets in five games.

His performance also included his career-best in the tournament- 3 for 18- against India.

Like Imran Tahir, Sodhi too was the No.1 bowler at the time of the player auction but he went unsold before being included in the squad as a replacement bowler.

Sodhi is currently at the fourth spot on the list of T20I bowlers.
