New York Liberty team huddle NYL vs WAS Dream11

NYL vs WAS Dream11: There are numerous reasons to love the WNBA and we are well into the halfway mark with the All-Star Ballot deadline closing in till the 20th of the month. Anyway, there are obvious favorites for the All-Star battle such as Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, and Kelsey Plum. Then there are others that can also slate in for one of the spots. And that can be said for Sabrina Ionescu, who will take on the Washington Mystics along with her team New York Liberty.

The Liberty started in a wretched fashion, showing their similar struggles as last season. They started the season with one win and seven losses, however, they have won four out of the last six games, suffering a close 86:88 loss to the Sky, despite a 27 points performance by Sabrina Ionescu. On the other hand, the Mystics have been way better compared to last season, beginning with a ten wins and six losses record, coming into the game after completing an 83:65 win behind a 16 points and 10 rebounds effort by Shakira Austin. Can Liberty take advantage of a Mystics team without Elena Della-Donne?

NBA Projections, Stats & Analysis

Liberty need more from players other than Ionescu

Ionescu has been a strong presence since the beginning of the season, she not only gives the team strong scoring, playmaker, and rebounder, doing more than her fair share, but the support around has been rather off the mark. Except for Natasha Howard, who has had her moments, but even her consistency has been missing.

Sabrina faces a ton of double/triple teams throughout the game and when she is surrounded at the perimeter, the help has been on the short side. Howard will need to grow more consistent but the trouble is that there have not been other options who have been able to figure out their roles. Who will be with answers here? Liberty needs someone to step up or they will be on the fringes of the Playoffs again.

Mystics without Della-Donne have suffered a bit

The Mystics have a 50% win and 50% loss record without Elena Della-Donne whereas, with her, they have won 70% of the games. With the team resting their veteran presence Elena every other game, the Mystics will have to uncover their depth. And they have been able to do that as the season has progressed. So what do they have without her?

Shakira Austin has been an incredible double-double threat whereas Natasha Cloud has given brilliant playmaking although her offense has been a bit down. Ariel Atkins has been a bit off but Alysha Clark has been rather inspirational. Myisha Hines-Allen can be a more than decent backup whereas Shatori Walker-Kimbrough has been a decent bench presence soon too. Can the Mystics win more than without Elena Della Donne?
