Los Angeles Lakers:
Anthony Davis picked up a thumb injury in the 2nd and the final game of Lakers’ China tour against Brooklyn Nets. However, the scans later revealed only the original diagnosis of a sprain, alleviating all the fears that the 26-year-old forward may miss a game or two for Lakers at the start of the new season.
In fact, Davis could make his Staples Center debut in Lakers’ next game, but he is definitely out of this match.
Lakers head coach Frank Vigel also shed light on Kyle Kuzma’s situation following the players’ participation in non-contact drills. The 46-year-old coach confirmed that the 24-year-old forward will take time before regaining his full match fitness.
“There’s still progression to be had,” said Vogel. “He was very limited with what he did today, and it was all non-contact in limited duration. It’s going to take some time for him to get his legs under him and build-up to the point where he’s playing live with contact, and then some time where we want to see him perform in that and respond well to that before we clear him to play.”
In addition, reports also suggest that LeBron James will not play in this game due to rest purposes. The 3-time NBA champion missed the last game as well.
While the first-team stars who have a scheduled rest day are Danny Green, Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo. The trio is expected to miss this game.
But Vogel could welcome back summer signing Quinn Cook on this gam,e after the former Golden State Warriors recovered from a sore calf which forced him to miss Lakers’ preseason schedule up to this point.
Golden State Warriors:
Warriors could also be without a host of first-team stars for their next scrimmage against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Stephen Curry has played in every Warriors’ game in this preseason and is expected to be given a rest here.
Reports also suggest that both Draymond Green and D’Angelo Russell will be held out from this game.
Alec Burks (ankle) and Kevon Looney (hamstring) have both been ruled out from this game due to their injury issues.
All-Star Klay Thompson is expected to miss the whole of the 2019-20 NBA regular season.
