Match-ups
The guard match-up between former teammates D’Angelo Russell and Stephen Curry is certainly exciting. While Russell has been huge with his lovely lefty stepbacks, fadeaway, and what-not, Steph also brings hot shooting to the table. Both are terrific playmakers but Curry is a better defender who fights off screens and can cause ruptures to the opposition’s perimeter players. This is the match-up that can prove to be decisive because D’Angelo always has that one big game in the back pocket while we know what Curry is capable of by now.

Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Edwards will clash at the wing position. Another high-octane match-up considering how both of them bring a lot to the floor in terms of offensive moves. Edwards has averaged more points but Wiggins is a more accomplished two-way player. This is certainly an exciting match-up and I believe Wiggins is due a big game these days.

The toughest match-up for the Warriors can be in the middle with Karl Anthony-Towns and Kevon Looney. Karl is an incredible shooter and can also jam it inside, so yes, Looney while being a serviceable rebounder and help defender, doesn’t have the same offensive skillset as Anthony-Towns. This is one match-up where the Wolves can size up a big advantage.

In other matchups, Kuminga, Payton II, Poole, Porter Jr., Lee, and Moses Moody will square off against Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt, Beverley, McDaniels, and Beasley. While the combination for Wolves brings more offense(Arguably), the Warriors combination is defensive-oriented. Surely, there are a lot of interesting match-ups here and Jordan Poole has been long due a big night these days.

Considering the match-ups above, let me be clear about two things, while the Wolves have been a better offensive team than the Warriors on average, the latter has been a better defensive team. This makes for an exciting game but yes, the Warriors have had their troubles keeping it going away from home and that is why they’ll need to come out strong. In the recent window, the Timberwolves have garnered more wins and they are strong on their home floor. But I have a feeling that Stephen Curry will heat up this game while the bench of the Warriors will also seize some advantage. That is why I give the Warriors a 55% chance of winning here.
