Tony Snell CJ McCollum NOP vs UTA Dream11

NOP vs UTA Dream11: NBA has been churning out games on a regular basis and as we head towards the postseason, the race for the rankings will be in full throttle. While one may think about the Playoffs being the most intense, don’t forget that to reach there you have to keep climbing up in a league where some bottom feeders can play as spoilsport after figuring out the team chemistry with the players figuring out their roles. The Western Conference has become a wild race with different teams stirring up the nest and as the New Orleans Pelicans and the Utah Jazz clash, a lot is at stake here.

For the Pelicans, each game is no less than a Playoff battle because they are at the bottom of the West and the Spurs are right behind him, the Kings can hit a hot streak considering they have a strong pairing of Fox and Sabonis. Trail Blazers are weakened but you may never know when they click, but overall, the Pelicans have to continue to pile on their three-game winning streak.

On the other hand, the Utah Jazz has been cranking up the heat lately after a terrible January. The biggest reason for that has been the availability of both Mitchell and Gobert, surely one of the best duos in the league. Jazz can’t be taken lightly due to their brilliant inside and outside combinations and if they figure out their defense, well, you gotta watch out.

NBA Projections, Stats & Analysis

A litmus test for the Pelicans, Jazz has hit the sweet spot at the right time
Pelicans have won three in a row and are finally clicking with their newly acquired guard in CJ McCollum, who has adjusted well to the system. He has basically become a Point Guard for the Pelicans and has certainly raised his playmaking abilities, and he also brings elite shooting, an area where the team was lagging behind earlier. One other reason for their rise has been the play of Jaxson Hayes, who has done a great job of slashing hard at that rim and has helped the Pelicans in achieving more balance. Another reason for the recent success has been the adjustments made by Brandon Ingram after his scoring has dipped earlier with CJ as a ball-dominating guard. He has figured out his offensive role and has had some strong games recently. With Jonas Valanciunas in the middle, the team has gotten quality rebounding and scoring too.

On the other hand, unlike the Pelicans, the current Jazz has now experienced a bunch of games together, and functionally, they are one of the most stable units. Even if you take into account the rumors of a rift between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, they form a solid one-two punch. Gobert is a great help defender, can seal the paint with his rebounding skills, and can also finish at the rim with a great flurry. Mitchell is one of the best isolation scorers in the league and he has shown time and time again, that he can take over the game and close the deal when the time is neigh. With scoring support of Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson, and Bojan Bogdanovic, the team has ample shooting and perhaps a better Guard balance with Conley, Clarkson, and Mitchell compared to Pelicans, who are playing with virtually one effective guard in CJ because of Devonte Graham’s game has been off for the Pelicans.

This is a huge game for the Pelicans and a test of their development. The team had beaten the Suns earlier, a team that was without Paul but still with Booker, Bridges, Ayton, and Johnson, that was a tough team to beat. This win surely bolstered the confidence but the next two victories have been against vulnerable squads in the Kings and Lakers. However, every win has a huge value in this league especially when you are in for a tight race for the last few Play-in spots. The Pelicans have amazing balance in the main five, two quality shotcreators, a brilliant Center, two rising Forwards, but the bench has been a huge concern, I have been saying this for a long time and I will say it again, Devonte Graham needs to click on his threes more often, he can be an effective sixth-player option. Naji Marshall and Tony Snell have shown promise as well and one thing is clear, the Pelicans have become a better defensive team recently.

But this is a litmus test against a Jazz team, that has won nine of their last ten games, winning against strong Western foes like Mavericks, Suns, Warriors, and Nuggets. They have been playing a great brand of basketball and have more experience of playing together compared to the Pelicans. Brandon Ingram will need to build a decisive advantage at the wing position but I believe the biggest threat for the Pelicans will be Donovan most probably. The Pelicans have achieved more cohesion but Donovan can snatch the game in a few minutes so they need to take care of his well-versed game. If the Pelicans do win this game, they will inch closer to the Lakers and that means even closer to the ninth spot in terms of sealing a Play-in spot. So, how will the Jazz tackle the threat of CJ, Ingram, Valanciunas, Herbert, Hayes, Graham, and Snell?
