Hardik Pandya reminisces his Test debut

By Abhishek Shankar

Back in 2017, the Indian team had begun their campaign in a perfect manner when they clinched a victory in the first Test at Galle by 304 runs.

Hardik Pandya had made his Test debut in this match and also scored an aggressive half-century in the first innings.

Pandya while talking to Cheteshwar Pujara in a video revealed what he felt on making debut for India in the longest format.
The batsman scored 26 runs in 1 over to become the highest Indian run-getter off an over in Test cricket. At number eight position, his century was also the fastest by an Indian cricketer which included seven sixes and eight fours. The entire Indian squad had given him a standing ovation from the stands after he scored his first century.

BCCI had congratulated him on their twitter account and uploaded a video of the century-making moment.

With the help of Pandya’s century, India had scored 487 runs in the first innings of the third Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.

Pandya remained unbeaten on 108 off 93 balls. India had already won the three-match series after taking a 2-0 unassailable lead in the series.

When asked about the playing skills, he had said, “As an international cricketer, you need to be really smart. I feel to play all the three formats you need to switch from the mind. You don’t change your skills much. The way I was batting I thought I was batting in ODI only. You take time and work on your bowling, batting and patience.”

Pandya when asked about his inspiration, he said,”I was six and a half year old. I saw my brother Krunal playing cricket and I used to trouble him during practices and then Kiran More sir saw me and suggested to take up cricket as my career.

India will play the first match on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, which will be followed by the second one at Lord’s on August 9. The third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on August 18 after which the squad will be announced for the remaining two games.
