Peshawar Zalmi vs Islamabad United

The Big Picture

So, here we are then folks! After three weeks of pulsating cricket with all its ebbs and flows, we are down to the summit clash of the tournament. The defending champions Peshawar Zalmi will take on the 2016 winners Islamabad United in front of a packed Karachi stadium on Sunday, March 25th, 2018.

Date: 25th March 2018

When: 9:30 PM IST

Venue: National Stadium, Lahore

HEAD-TO-HEAD

All-time meetings: ISL :04 PZ:03

Peshawar Zalmi

Captain: Darren Sammy

The defending champions just like their opponents have had an up and down tournament and have somehow managed to qualify for the playoffs. They had to win all their remaining four matches to make it to the finals again and on the back of opener Kamran Akmal, who scored the fastest fifty in the previous game and their overseas recruit in Dawson, Fletcher, and Sammy, managed to achieve that unscathed.  The bowling front has been good too with Riyaz and Hasan Ali leading the attack from the front and will be expected to do the same in the finals.

Though Darren Sammy is struggling with injury, the iconic captain is expected to feature in the all-important encounter.

Probable X1: Kamran Akmal, Andre Fletcher, Chris Jordan, Mohammad Hafeez, Saad Nasim, Liam Dawson, Darren Sammy (C), Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Sameen Gul, Umaid Asif

Islamabad United

Captain: JP Duminy

Overseas recruits in Luke Ronchi, who scored a brilliant 94 off 39 balls and Alex Hales (46 off 33 balls) against Sultans have been the cornerstone of the Islamabad United’s success. While they will be without Hales for the final, the likes of JP Duminy, Samit Patel, and Walton have all traveled to Karachi. Duminy will continue to lead the squad in the absence of Misbah, who has been ruled out for several weeks.

While Islamabad United will bank on their trio of fast bowlers in Raees, Sami, and Finn, they’d be hoping, Samit Patel compiles an encore of his performance in the last game that saw him pick two wickets along with local spinner Shadab Khan.

Team Squad;

Mohammad Sami, Jean-Paul Duminy (c), Luke Ronchi (wk), Samit Patel, Alex Hales, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Amad Butt, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Sahibzada Farhan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Samuel Badree, Chadwick Walton, Steven Finn, Sam Billings, Zafar Gohar, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Hasan, Rohail Nazir
