Kamalpreet Kaur Discuss Throw: An Indian professional athlete who is a discus thrower, she works for the Indian Railways and represents them in national competitions. Kaur currently trains with Baljeet Singh, who has really high expectations from her. Her idol is Seema Punia, who she incidentally beat recently to book her ticket to Tokyo.
The 25-year-old hails from the Badal village of Punjab. She was initially hesitant to take up a sport as a career due to financial constraints. But because of her father’s support and her physical education coach’s insistence, she changed her mind.
According to her, she was bad in her studies as a kid and not interested in academics. She took up athletics in 2012 and began seriously training for the sport in 2014. No one expected Kamalpreet would become the first Indian woman to break the 65m barrier in the discus throw. It was a result of hard work and innovative ways of training during the pandemic months.
The wait for the games is almost over. With a throw of 65.06m, Kaur booked her place in Tokyo. It was a good 1.5m above the required qualifying mark. She created the record in the Federation Cup National Athletics in Patiala, breaking a 9-year-old National record. Her previous best was 61.04m.
She said that she wanted to make her country proud in the upcoming Olympics by winning a medal. However, she expressed disappointment that she was not congratulated by any official in her native place and required financial help for her preparation.
She is 6 feet 1 inch tall.
