Former Indian ace shooter Abhinav Bindra is an Olympic Gold Medalist in the 10-meter Air Rifle event from the 2008 Olympic Games which took place in Beijing, China.

Apart from winning a Gold Medal in the Olympics, he also won a Gold in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Talking about his early days, Bindra was born into a wealthy Punjabi Family. He started his schooling at the Doon School for two years before moving to St Stephen’s School in Chandigarh. He is a recipient of the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and also the Padma Bhushan. He is definitely one of the jewels among the Indian athletes.

Rumors are making rounds that Harshvardhan Kapoor will be essaying the role Abhinav Bindra in his biopic which will be directed by Kannan Iyer. However, this news surfaced in the year 2017 and there is no news about the same till now.

Records

  • He has won six Gold medals at various international meets in 2001.
  • In the 2002 Commonwealth games, he medalled Gold in pairs event and Silver in the individual event.
  • On July 24, 2006, Bindra became the first Indian shooter to win a World Championship Gold in Zagreb.
  • He was honoured as the National flag bearer in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.
  • He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award at the tender age of 18 in the year 2001. This made him the youngest recipient of this award.
  • He has won four consecutive Gold Medals in four consecutive Commonwealth Games editions from 2002 to 2014. Three of these medals were secured in pairs, whereas, the remaining one came in the individual event.
