Not much is known about Gert’s early life since she came to prominence only when she started dating and then later married the cricket star, Trent Boult.
Gert Smith is a Mount Maunganui primary school teacher by profession and loves cricket.
In her Twitter bio, she explains herself as ‘Teacher, Pet lover, and Cook’.
She shared in an interview that the New Zealand wives and girlfriends (WAG) didn't really think of themselves in that way. She said this is not her only identity as she and other ladies of their NZ WAG community have families and jobs which keeps them busy.
It was two years ago that Gert met the Tauranga bowler in a Hamilton bar. It was when she was out with her cousin, fellow Tauranga cricketer Daniel Flynn, himself a former Black Cap and now captain of the Northern Districts.
Gert shared in an interview that though she liked cricket, there was little that she knew about the game and that too because of her cousin Daniel. It was only later when Gert and Boult hit it off that she got much of the knowledge on the game.
It was during a busy cricket schedule that Trent proposed marriage to Gert on a trip to Melbourne last June. The couple lives in the Mount and had been together for about three years.
Gert shared in an interview that, “After the game, the families, wives, and girlfriends had a few drinks at the ground – champagne. Then we headed back to the hotel. But it only sank in this morning when Trent and I went out to breakfast. We walked into this Britomart cafe and whole tables started clapping and cheering.”
Gert’s has shared publically that her class of year 5 and 6 even joked and placed a bet on whether she is actually dating the Black Caps start cricketer and were pleasantly surprised when it came out to be true.
Just over a year after proposing to Gert, Trent got married to her in a beautiful ceremony at Kauri Bay Boomrock in Clevedon, south of Auckland on August 7, 2017.
Boult, while sharing a beautiful picture of the day on Instagram, wrote: “The best day of my life and so much more. An absolutely amazing day celebrating with all our closest family & friends – Thanks to everyone who influenced the day and to the gorgeous Gert for making all my dreams come true. I love you”.
Trent Boult announced through an Instagram post dated July 29, 2018, that he and his wife Gert Smith are expecting their first child by end of the year.
It was in October of 2018 that the couple announced the birth of their baby boy.
Gert took to stardom when she started dating the star cricketer and it came to light when the Black Cap cricketer proposed to her. After that, her popularity increased manifold when the couple got married and when later when they welcomed a child.
She is considered to be very prominent within the WAG (wives and girlfriends) community especially in New Zealand.
As for today, she has 4,056 k Instagram followers on her account @gertie_b, however, since her account is private, it shows that she likes to keep a distance from the public eye.
Interestingly, the couple’s dog named Louie Boult has an Instagram account as well by the name of @louie_boult_the_retriever which is in fact public and has several pictures of him with his parents’, the Boults.
