Masaba Gupta was born in Delhi to great Caribbean cricketer Viv Richards and Indian actress Neena Gupta. The love stories between cricketers and actresses have always been eye-catching and sometimes controversial, but none more than Viv Richards and Neena Gupta in the 80s. Even after such vexed background, much to the credit of Masaba, she has made her own identity as a fashion designer in the competitive Indian market.
Masaba Gupta runs own label called as ‘House of Masaba’ and famous for imaginative & creative names she gives for each of her collections. Her journey started at the age of 19 when she applied for Lakme Fashion Week with the help of famous designer Wendell Rodricks. Her label is known for ethnic wear for women produced with silk, chiffon and cotton with modern embroidery work. She came into the news for her unique ‘Indianness’ used with a modern touch in her outfits.
Masaba Gupta has worked with well-known international brands like Maybelline New York and Levi’s for various projects. Recently, she launched a hijab-saree line prospecting Muslim women who want to flaunt Indian high-street fashion.
Masaba Gupta recently judged ‘MTV Supermodel of the Year 2019’ alongside Malaika Arora. Netflix has also announced a TV series in India starring Masaba with her mother Neena Gupta in 2019.

Masaba Gupta was born in Delhi but her mother shifted to Mumbai thereafter mainly due to her commitments. Masaba grew up in Mumbai and dreamt to become a tennis player but gave up on the same when she was 16. She was passionate about dance and music and wanted to join Shiamak Devar’s dance group but left the same after her mother’s denial. Then she went to London for a course in dance and music but came back to India and joined Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic as she was feeling homesick.
Her parents never married and she was raised by her mother. She gives much of the credit of what she became today to her mother. After joining the fashion industry, Masaba reconnected with her father Viv Richards and now both share a strong relationship.
