Mitchell Swepson is a leg-break bowler from Brisbane who idolizes his country-mate and unarguably the best spinner of all-time, Shane Warne. The Aussie great was well-known for flighting the ball and then getting those big spins, while Swepson loves to bowl flat and quick.
Mitch Swepson started to rise and shine at the age-group itself. He featured for Queensland in both Under-17 and Under-19 categories before graduating to Sheffield Shield. Swepson made his Sheffield Shield debut back in the 2015-16 season. He took 17 wickets in the six games of his debut first-class season at 37.94. There was no stopping for the young leggie as he got selected for Australia A to tour India and play a tri-series against the hosts and South Africa A. The Indian pitches were tailor-made for the Aussie as he collected 16 wickets in three games at a whopping average of 19.35.
2016 was the breakthrough for Mitch Swepson as the Big Bash franchise, Brisbane Heat signed the local leg-break bowler. He signed a long-term deal with the Heat and commenced his first season with a bang and become a regular feature for the franchise in coming years.
In 2018, he made his Australian debut in a T20I against England at Edgbaston. In a match, where batsmen were hitting fours and sixes for fun, Swepson bagged took wickets but he had to wait for two years before getting his cap for Australia. His second match turned out to be a dream as he sent the world’s best batter back to the pavilion. Now Swepson has wickets of Jos Buttler, Eion Morgan, and Virat Kohli in his right pocket.
Swepson was also part of the Australian team which toured India for the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2017-18 but could get his baggie green and had to warm the bench as Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe were whispering some magical spells. As time passed, Swepson has raised through the ranks is reluctant to make his Test debut in the 2020-21 Test home series against India, where he has been selected as the second spinner for the Aussies.
