Another chapter in Cricket’s well-decorated relation with Bollywood happens to be this pair of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin and famous actress of that era Sangeeta Bijlani. This couple is still making a lot of headlines even after the ending of their marriage almost a decade ago.

Sangeeta Bijlani was born on 9^th July, 1960 to a traditional Sindhi family. She always wanted to make her career in modelling right from an early age. Her first major breakthrough came when she was crowned with ‘Miss India Universe’ title in the year 1980. She went on to represent India at Miss Universe pageant in Seoul, South Korea and won the ‘Best national costume award’. Notably, her costume was designed by her mother for the event.

Sangeeta Bijlani met with Salman Khan when both were into their modelling days in 1986. Both came close to each other and the feeling of love grew strongly between them. They started working out on the dates for the marriage and then suddenly they broke up in the surprise of the whole industry. The reason behind that was believed to be Salman’s affair with Somi Ali. Mohammad Azharuddin was married to Naureen and he was already a father of two children when he met with Sangeeta again. But he divorced his first wife and tied the knot with Sangeeta Bijlani at a grand event held at Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai on 14^th November, 1996. Celebrities from the film industry and cricket fraternity were present on the occasion.

After almost 14 years of togetherness, Sangeeta Bijlani and Azharuddin’s marriage ended in a divorce in the year 2010. The reason behind the divorce was believed to be Azhar’s alleged affair with Indian Badminton star Jwala Gutta.

Sangeeta Bijlani was first spotted by film director Rajiv Rai when she was walking on the ramp during a fashion show in Mumbai. He approached her but Sangeeta was not convinced for her move towards the film industry. In the end, Rajiv got the nod and Sangeeta Bijlani made her film debut in ‘Qatil’ during the year 1987. Then she went on to play one of the lead roles in the blockbuster ‘Tridev’.
