Abraham Benjamin de Villiers was born on 17 February 1984 in Bela-Bela, South Africa. His father, a doctor, played rugby in his youth, and he encouraged his son to play sports. There is much written about AB’s prowess in various sports, but it is a myth. He did play rugby and was ranked national no.1 in tennis in his age group.
AB de Villiers earned his maiden Test cap for South Africa in December 2004 versus England. His ODI debut came against the same opponents in February 2005. In his 15 year-long international career, he was named ICC ODI Player of the Year three times. He was also one of the five Wisden cricketers of the decade at the end of 2019.
Mr. 360 has a wide range of shots all around the wicket. He is known for his destructive batting and innovative shots. Since his retirement, he has flown around the world to play in different T20 franchise-based leagues. His most popular stint has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

“Playing in the IPL, having broken one record or two, playing in front of the crowd, and realizing that my teammates are also in awe. I have the privilege of experiencing those moments once or twice, maybe three or four times,” the South African superstar said in a live Instagram session.
In the first edition of IPL, Delhi Daredevils bought him for INR 1.2 crores. His price steadily grew to INR 1.4 crores by 2010. In the 2011 auction, RCB purchased his services for INR 5 crores. Between 2014 and 2017, AB earned INR 9.5 crores.
He became one of the richest foreign cricketers in 2018 when his value grew to INR 11 crores. The Bengaluru-based outfit retained him for the same price in 2019 and 2020. In total, AB de Villiers has earned more than INR 100 crore while playing in the IPL.
