Ajaz was awarded a central contract by New Zealand cricket for the 2020-21 season. It was a testament to his skill set as a bowler considering the Blackcaps also had Mitchell Santner. Ahead of the World Championship final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, England, the bowler was quoted as saying, “As a spinner, you thrive on situations where you have an opportunity to contribute to the team and contribute to the environment, especially as a New Zealand spinner, knowing how few opportunities we get.”

Ajaz Patel Nationality

Ajaz is of Indian origin. His family belongs to Gujarat, India. He was born on 21 October 1988 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He migrated to New Zealand with his family in 1996 when he was 8 years old. Growing up, he played his cricket in Auckland and later on represented Central Districts, a major first-class team in New Zealand.

Although he bowled seam for most of his childhood, Ajaz changed his game and now is a left-arm orthodox spinner. He bowls tidy lengths attacking the stumps and also has special deliveries in his locker.

Ajaz has two five-wicket hauls in an innings in Test cricket. The first one had come in the second innings of his maiden Test match against Pakistan for which he was named Player of the Match. He has appeared in two T20 Internationals and is yet to make his ODI debut.
