Rahane belongs to a middle-class family and his journey to playing for India wasn’t an easy one. He travelled for long hours in his childhood for his cricket practice and that made him tough. He made his first-class debut against Karachi in 2007 Nissar Trophy and scored a century. A slim boy playing delicate and attractive cricket shots with pristine timing, gained attention from across the country.
Rahane made his international debut against England in 2011 and was one of India’s shining performers in an otherwise disappointing tour. He made his Test debut in 2013 against Australia at Delhi. Rahane wasn’t as impressive in home conditions but excelled in overseas conditions. He made runs on bouncy South African pitches. The century on a green wicket at Lord’s helped India register a historic win. Soon Rahane established himself as a crisis man of Indian team as he played several important knocks under pressure in Test cricket.
India registered a historic series win over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy under Rahane’s captaincy. Despite being under pressure and a depleted team, Rahane led the team from the front scoring a breathtaking ton at Melbourne.
His excellent overseas record makes him an important player for India in the upcoming WTC Final.
