Early days
Beant Singh Bhinder was born in a village in Karnal, Haryana to an agriculturist father. Beant’s life changed dramatically in 2011 when Diwan Singh, father of the Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, came to settle a land deal to their village. Diwan Singh was an acquaintance of Beant’s father, Gurwinder Singh. Gurwinder Singh approached Diwan Singh and asked for his advice for his young son. Diwan Singh spoke to Sushil Kumar and suggested that Beant Singh should spend the summer vacation in Sushil’s company with wrestlers in Delhi’s Chhtrasaal Stadium.
Soon, Beant’s attention was drawn towards running and he began training under coach Sunita Rai for the 800m.
