Ben McDermott was born in Caboolture, Queensland. He is the son of Australian Test cricketer Craig McDermott and brother of Alister McDermott. He began playing junior cricket for Runaway Bay and Broadbeach with his brother at the age of 7.
Ben had also represented Australia in Youth One Day Internationals at Under-19 level and played alongside his brother in the 2014 Prime Minister’s XI match against England. He made his Big Bash League debut in the 2013-14 season for Brisbane Heat, scoring 30 in his first match against Adelaide Strikers. Ben McDermott is a top-order right-handed batsman and a part-time wicketkeeper.
Ben was named as one of the six cricketers to watch during the tournament ahead of the 2019–20 Marsh One-Day Cup.
