Dane Cleaver got a couple of big breaks in 2022. The Kiwi batter was an addition to New Zealand’s squad for the third Test match against England in June. The 30-year-old finally got an opportunity to make his T20I debut against Ireland later that year.
In his debut T20I series against Ireland, he managed to score 88 runs at an impressive average of 44, and a strike rate of nearly 130. In only his second International outing, he played a match-winning knock of 78 off just 55 balls, which helped him bag the Player of the Match award.
Dane Cleaver is the cousin brother of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. The batter was also a part of the Kiwi squad for the U19 World Cup back in 2010. In 2018, Dane Cleaver bagged a contract with Central Districts for the 2018-19 season.
The hard hitting batter made his First class debut back in 2011 as a teenager. This was followed by his List A debut in 2012. Dane Cleaver led the Central Districts in a Plunket Shield fixture against Northern Districts in March 2022. Hence, with so much domestic experience to his name, the Kiwi batter was ready to make the leap forward into International cricket.
The 30-year-old was also named as a part of the Kiwi T20I squad to face Netherlands and Scotland in July-August 2022. However, he missed out on being considered for the West Indian tour in August.
