Padikkal started playing cricket at the age of 11. He came into spotlight when he impressed for Bellary Tuskers in the KPL. The performance got him into Karnataka squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy. He went on to score 4 consecutive centuries in Vijay Hazare Trophy and created a record. Padikkal finished the tournament as the highest run-getter with 609 runs and was selected for Deodhar Trophy in India A squad.

But Padikkal’s moment came when he made his debut for RCB in 2020 season. In a tournament played between the Covid-19 wave in UAE, he played a big role in RCB’s semi-final campaign. In his very first IPL season, Padikkal emerged as the highest run-scorer for his team and bagged the Emerging Player award. He tested positive for Covid-19 just before the 2021 IPL but came back strongly to score 195 runs in 6 matches. This also included a blistering century.
