Rohit Sharma special powered India to a 7 wicket win to clinch the series by 2-1 on Sunday.
Sharma’s third T20I ton coupled with Hardik Pandya’s all-round effort led India to register their sixth consecutive T20I series win.
Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 100 off 56 deliveries to level the record of most T20I centuries in the shortest format with Colin Munro.
“It was necessary for us to assess the conditions,” he said.
“The wicket was really good, I just knew that I had to stay there. We knew that the wickets would be nice to play on and I tried my best to hold the shape while playing big shots,” he added.
Talking about his partnership with Hardik Pandya (50 off 23 balls), Rohit Sharma said, “Pandya is a fearless individual. And, that is exactly what the team wants him to do.”
India skipper Virat Kohli lauded the performance of his bowlers who made an impressive comeback, “I believe the comeback from the bowlers was outstanding, the way they were playing made us think they would get 225-230. As a captain, I am really glad to see that.”
Rohit was special but Pandya was stand-out: Kohli
“Hardik is a really good all-rounder, the way he picked up wickets is what we want to see in young players. Rohit was very special, but Hardik was standout,” he added.
Pandya returned 4/38 in the match.
He dismissed Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in his alloted overs.
“When I went for 22 in the first over, Krunal told me it’s ok and I could still do it. If you come and bowl in the right lengths, you can take wickets and stop runs,” he said.
“My focus was on keeping it simple. In shorter formats, I think as a batsman while bowling to outplay them,” he added.
“I am still learning from the game. I make sure to learn from my mistakes, it helps me in improving my game.”
