Chakabva registered his first official cricket match playing first-class cricket for Northerns in April 2007 and later got a spot in Zimbabwe A side. The same year the player succeeded in marking his first half-century, followed by his maiden first-class century.

Regis Chakabva’s domestic cricket career brought a golden opportunity for him in 2008 as officially being selected for Zimbabwe national team for Quadrangular Twenty20 Series in Canada and registered his T20I debut against Pakistan the same year.

Chakabva’s One Day International debut came in the same year as T20I’s debut and Test in 2011. In between these years, Regis could not find his permanent spot in the team despite playing all formats.
