Tata IPL 2025 is done and dusted, and finally, it’s the Royal Challengers Bengaluru who have won the elusive trophy for the first time after a long 18-year wait. Kudos to Virat Kohli, who spent all 18 years with one single franchise, and last night, his dreams came true as he stood on the podium and lifted the coveted trophy.

The tournament, which lasted for almost two and a half months, saw an epic ending as we got a first-time champion after the 2016 edition, where Sunrisers Hyderabad lifted the trophy after defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in front of their passionate home crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Like every season, a bunch of players stood out from the rest and made a mark this season. One such player was the Orange Cap holder, Sai Sudharsan.

Sai Sudharsan, the leading run-getter of IPL 2025

Despite Gujarat Titans faltering under pressure towards the tournament’s climax, Sai Sudharsan emerged as a standout performer. The Tamil Nadu youngster displayed remarkable composure, showcasing a flawless and risk-free batting approach that captivated cricket enthusiasts throughout the season. His consistency and technical precision cemented his reputation as one of the most promising talents in the league. The 23-year-old looked determined this season and was on the money right from the very first game. Take a look at Sai Sudharsan’s stats for the season.

The youngster had a terrific run in the Tata IPL 2025. In 15 innings this season, the southpaw scored a mammoth 759 runs at a scintillating average of 54.21, and his strike rate of 156.17 included a risk-free approach. The 23-year-old hit a century and 6 half-centuries in the season, with an unbeaten 108 runs against Delhi Capitals being his highest score.

Embraced the role of an opener

For the first time in his IPL career, Sai Sudharsan played as a regular opener throughout the season. After making his IPL debut in 2022 with the same franchise, Sai was looked at as a player who could bat in the middle overs and provide stability. He played his role with perfection in the last two seasons, but this time around, Sai had a change in role as he had to open the inning this season as per team composition and requirements.

This season, Gujarat Titans opted for Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill at the top, followed by seasoned pro Jos Buttler. The mantra behind the new opening combination was the left-right combination. Despite a prolific IPL opener like Jos Buttler in their ranks, GT changed the norm and opted for the left-right combination to trouble the opposition bowlers.

The change in batting order did wonders to Sai Sudharsan’s batting, as he ended up with the Orange Cap this season and also found a place in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming tour of England.

Hard work paid off for Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan’s stellar performances throughout the season earned him a well-deserved spot in Team India’s Test squad for the England tour. With Indian Test cricket undergoing a significant transformation, the inclusion of a technically sound youngster like him signals a promising shift. His composed batting, sharp technique, and ability to handle pressure make him an ideal candidate for a long and successful career in the longest format of the game. If he can adapt quickly to international conditions, he could be a crucial asset to India’s future red-ball setup.
