Shubman Gill, a highly praised young Indian batter, has recently come under heat for a notable slump in his Test performance. Gill has only scored two hundred in the last ten Test matches, raising worries about his consistency and ability to convert promising starts into big scores.

Despite plenty of chances, Shubman Gill’s Test cricket performance has been unsatisfactory both at home as well as overseas. Notably, he has not scored more than 40 runs in any of his last 11 outings. Across 21 Tests, Gill has 1,063 runs at an average of 29.53.

The move from opener to No. 3 hasn’t gone well for him, as at No. 3, he averages just 21 with 189 runs in 11 innings, whereas his time as an opener was more effective, with 874 runs in 29 innings at an average of 32.37. Gill has struggled to fill the gap left by the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara at the crucial No. 3 position. Gill finds himself at a critical point, with the second Test against England scheduled for February 2, 2024.

Looking at Gill’s recent Test performances indicates inconsistencies in his batting. Although getting two hundred, his lack of 40+ scores in his last 11 innings raises concerns about his form, indicating a decline in his batting prowess.
