The inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals, had a terrible run in the Tata IPL 2025. The team looked totally out of sorts and ended their dreadful campaign with just 4 wins out of 14 matches. They finished 9th on the points table, which is also their worst finish since 2021, when they finished second last with 5 wins out of 14 matches. The Royals didn’t get many opportunities to cherish this season; however, a 14-year-old lad from Samastipur, Bihar, took all the accolades for RR courtesy of his unfathomable hitting abilities and the head he has at the tender age of 14. Yes, we are talking about RR’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has taken the cricketing world by storm with his performances in the ongoing Tata IPL.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a star in the making
Vaibhav Suryavanshi raised many eyebrows when he got an IPL contract at the age of 14. Rajasthan Royals, after a heavy tussle with Delhi Capitals during the auctions, fetched the services of the young left-hander for INR 1.1 crores. In the initial stages, Vaibhav wasn’t a part of the eleven, as RR’s top order was stuffed with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, and Riyan Parag.
However, an injury to skipper Sanju Samson opened the doors for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his IPL debut on April 19 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur against Lucknow Super Giants. In his debut match, Vaibhav displayed his big-hitting abilities by scoring a 20-ball 34, which included 2 fours and 3 massive sixes.
Vaibhav’s prowess, however, was on sheer display in the game against the Gujarat Titans, where he scored a blistering 35-ball ton, the fastest century in the IPL by an Indian. His mammoth 101 off 38 deliveries included 7 fours and 11 massive sixes. The youngster took the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna to the cleaners and assaulted them to the fullest. His wrecking show helped Rajasthan Royals secure a dominating win over the table-toppers, Gujarat Titans, by 8 wickets.
The King of Sixes
Vaibhav Suryavanshi showcased his power-hitting prowess in the CSK vs RR clash, smashing four sixes and overtaking Sanju Samson to claim the record for the most sixes in an IPL season before turning 20. With this feat, he now stands at 24 sixes in IPL 2025, equalling Rishabh Pant’s tally from his debut season in 2017.
Most Sixes in an IPL Season Before Turning 20,
- 24 sixes – Vaibhav Suryavanshi (2025)
- 24 sixes – Rishabh Pant (2017)
- 17 sixes – Sanju Samson (2014)
- 17 sixes – Ishan Kishan (2018)
- 16 sixes – Tilak Varma (2022)
What’s next for Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
After a brilliant debut season, the 14-year-old has a bright future ahead. Vaibhav has made a mark in his debut season and will be a great prospect in the future for the Rajasthan Royals. This season didn’t go well for the team, but it is expected that the team will look for some changes ahead of the next season and make the most of the mini-auctions slated before the start of the 2026 season. Vaibhav will remain with the Royals for at least the next three years.
