The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League is all set of kick off from 7 April 2018 with the first encounter where defending champions would be taking on Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium.

The IPL auction:

At the IPL’s auction held in January witnessed the franchises betting big on players. Jaydev Unadkat emerged as the costliest player as Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 11.5 crore.

Sandeep Lamichhane created history after becoming the first cricketer from Nepal to be bought with Delhi Daredevils picking him up for his base price.

Here we look at the IPL, squad lists and the schedule of 2018 IPL fixtures.

The league games would continue till 20th May, followed by qualifying matches on 22 May, 23 May and 25 May. The 2018 IPL final knock would be played on 27th May in Mumbai.

What is the Indian Premier League?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a Twenty20 cricket tournament where eight teams compete with each other to clinch the IPL trophy.

The tournament started in 2008 and the IPL 2018 would be the eleventh season of the league.

The season starts on Saturday, 7 April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Eight teams would play 60 matches across India in nine venues hosting games in a tournament that would go on for 51 days.

 

When and where would IPL final be held?

The 2018 IPL final is scheduled to be played on Sunday, 27 May at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

 

How many Teams play in the IPL?

Teams: Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils,  Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad.

8 teams compete with each other in the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings- Winners in 2010 and 2011

Delhi Daredevils- Yet to win

Kolkata Knight Riders- Winners in 2012 and 2014

Mumbai Indians- Winners in 2013, 2015 and 2017

Rajasthan Royals- Winners in 2008

Royal Challengers Bangalore- Yet to win

Sunrisers Hyderabad- Winners in 2016

Kings XI Punjab- Yet to win

 

How does the Indian Premier League season work?

The eight teams would be playing against each other in a home-and-away format. At the end of double round-robin group stage, four teams who finish at the top qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams would clash in the qualifier one round scheduled on 22 May, and the third and fourth-placed teams will play in the eliminator on 23 May.

The winner of qualifier one directly goes to the final whereas the losing team of qualifier play against the victor of eliminator on 25th May for playing the final clash.

 

Where to watch IPL?

The eleventh edition of the IPL would be broadcasted by Star India in 6 languages (English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali) on 10 Star Sports channels.
