Sachin Tendulkar came out of retirement to face six deliveries off the bowling of Australian women’s team all-rounder Ellyse Perry. During the bushfire relief charity match, the Junction Oval in Melbourne watched the master blaster bat after five and a half years. It was during the innings break of the match between Ricky Ponting XI and Adam Gilchrist XI when Sachin Tendulkar was asked to play six balls, just another addition to the event which was meant to raise funds for the fires in Australia recently.

After Ponting XI scored 104 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs, Tendulkar padded up to face one over from Ellyse Perry. The fielders in the outfield were some of the women firefighters while others were Australian women’s team players. The first delivery which Sachin faced was tucked by him on the leg-side as the ball went past the inner fine leg fielder for a boundary. The next ball, Sachin once again wiped one away on the leg side, for two runs. Perry bowled the next two deliveries and didn’t concede any run. Watch the entire video of Sachin’s innings here:

After this, Ellyse Perry handed the ball to Annabel Sutherland, another young Australian female fast bowler. Perry said, “It would be a great opportunity for the youngster like her.” Sachin hit one through the covers and another straight down the ground off the bowling of Sutherland before calling it a day. This was the first time in five and a half years that Sachin had featured in a cricket match.

Match between legends raises $7.7 Million for the Bushfire relief

Not only Tendulkar, the match saw several other legends of the cricket play together to raise funds for the cause. Players like Brian Lara, Wasim Akram, Courtney Walsh, Matthew Hayden, Shane Watson, Justin Langer, Yuvraj Singh and Brett Lee.

After a tough and intense match, Ponting XI who were coached by Sachin Tendulkar won the match by 1 run. The Bushfire Cricket Bash raised $7.7 Million for the cause and the effort would be quite satisfying as far as Cricket Australia is concerned.
